Pansy Party is a collection inspired by the quiet beauty of the garden and my enduring fascination with pansies. My husband and I plant pansies in our garden each winter, and over time, they have become a small but meaningful seasonal tradition. Their delicate forms and unexpected color combinations continually draw me back to them as a subject. The collection was also inspired by Pansies, one of my favorite books, which celebrates the remarkable variety and beauty found within this seemingly humble flower. I was drawn to the idea of slowing down and really observing something so familiar—the subtle shifts in color, the irregularity of each bloom, and how flowers gather together in a garden.

Each 9 x 12 painting is created on handmade watercolor paper with a deckled edge. Working loosely and intuitively, I use layered color and expressive brushwork to capture the feeling of the flowers rather than simply their likeness. The handmade paper adds another layer of texture and imperfection, allowing each piece to feel both intimate and organic. With Pansy Party, I wanted to celebrate the ordinary beauty found close to home—a winter garden, a familiar flower, and the simple act of paying attention.
