11" x 14" Mixed Media Collage on paper
Cut paper collage has always felt like my home base. It is the medium that comes most naturally to me—intuitive, tactile, and deeply expressive. I often think of Henri Matisse’s beautiful phrase, “drawing with scissors,” because it perfectly captures the rhythm and process behind cut paper collage.
Each piece is carefully cut and assembled by hand, layer upon layer, allowing shape, texture, and movement to emerge. For this collection, I was drawn to the timeless elegance of the magnolia. Translating these blooms into collage allowed me to explore dimension and texture in a way that feels both sculptural and delicate. Precise cuts, overlapping layers, and subtle variations in paper create depth and softness that echo the natural beauty of the flower itself.
Creating this series was a joyful return to my artistic roots as I have often worked in different mediums the last few years. My hope is that they bring a sense of warmth, elegance, and collected beauty into the spaces they inhabit. And the best part? They’re always in bloom.
